Special Children's Hospital Project

Children's HospitalIn the Fall of 2008, Dr. Harvey received an email from the Villa Clara Ministry of Health official that had worked as a donor agency for MEMO:Cuba. The official said that there was something he wanted to share with Dr. Harvey.

The email spoke of an eighty bed residential children's hospital for severely physically and mentally incapacitated children on the outskirts of the provincial capital, Santa Clara. Normally foreigners are not allowed to visit this hospital but because MEMO had earned the trust of the Cuban Government, the official asked if the MEMO team could visit the hospital with the intent of helping in renewal. The physical buildings had been renewed with money from the Spanish and Italian governments but they were in need of furnishings.

On the next trip to Cuba, the team visited the hospital and witnessed how well the children, many of them bed-ridden, were being cared for. As there is no place for these children to go when they grow up there are adult residents as well.

Since this initial visit, MEMO has been providing furniture, wheel chairs, feeding chairs, linens, toys and all the things that North American hospitals take for granted in their children's hospitals.

There is still a need to have the laundry facilities renewed and so MEMO Is on the look out for workinglaundry machines from closed hospitals in Ontario. Do you have a lead or know of a hospital that might be able to help with this? If so, MEMO would love to hear from you. Just click here and let us know.

These special children are very close to the Lord's heart and the MEMO team is happy that in some small way they can be His hands and feet.
