October 26, 2009 - Container #37 ready to pack!

Come on out to the MEMO warehouse at 9:00 on Saturday, October 31st, to lend a hand with packing the 37th container to be shipped to Cuba! Money raised from this year's fundraiser will pay for the shipping of this container. You are asked to bring your own lunch but coffee will be provided. Also, wear warm clothes because even though the warehouse is heated, most of the work will be packing beds into the container outside! Please call 346-8170 to confirm your attendance... or just show up! Look forward to seeing you all there!

October 23, 2009 - Annual Fundraiser a huge success!

MEMO held its annual fundraiser on October 23rd at Evangel Church in Thunder Bay. We raised over $11,000, not including credit card donations!

October 16, 2009 - Container #36 on its Way to Cuba!
Updated provided by Dr. Jerome Harvey

Container # 36 was safely packed and has been sent on the highway to Brampton and then by rail to Halifax where it will ship to Havana. Thanks to all of you who so cheerfully worked away at loading it in record time (5 hours!).

It contained over $100,000 of ostomy supplies and dressings mostly from Astrid Graham in Ottawa with Friends of Ostomates World Wide. It also included a Shimatzu x-ray from Rankin Inlet to be used as repair parts for our other Shimatzus in Placetas. Lots of feeding chairs, wheelchairs, desks and chairs for kids and a hundred other things. (Actually total piece count was 517) 80 bags of clothes were used for packing to fill in empty spaces to prevent damage.

We again thank God for the opportunity to be used in showing Cubans Canadian's concern for them.

Next event is the fundraising dinner on Friday, October 23rd at 6 p.m. Evangel Church. The Cuban interpreter for the last five years, Pastor Iran Pedraza, will be sharing the impact MEMO:Cuba has had in Villa Clara. If you do not have your complimentary tickets yet, please contact us. Very few are left.

Our next container will be shipped Saturday October 31st and will be primarily the 55 beds we have in storage in a trailer at our warehouse. Thanks for your prayers for MEMO. As one of you I was talking to this evening said "You seem to have good connections with God" That is solely God's mercy and grace as a result of your prayers. Thank You!

If you would like to see a few pics from the packing day, be sure to check out our Photo Gallery!

October 2nd, 2009 - Sioux Lookout Team Packs Container Updated provided by Dr. Jerome Harvey

A group of Sioux Lookout MEMO Volunteers made an incredible achievement - they collected, inventoried, packed and raised the funds to ship a 40' container to our newest hospital in Sagua. This was all done locally in Sioux Lookout. The container left by truck October 1st for Winnipeg where it will go by train to Halifax and then on to Cuba. Congrats to our Sioux Lookout MEMO team!
